An Open Letter to the Sun: Please Stop Flirting,I am horizontally detained

Subtitle: A comprehensive guide to doing absolutely nothing while rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia host a rave in your joints.

The sun is currently doing that obnoxious golden-hour beam thing across my hardwood floors. It looks warm. It looks inviting. It looks like the kind of lighting used in commercials for people who jog voluntarily before 7:00 AM.

Zero stars. Do not recommend.

According to my joints specifically courtesy of a tag-team performance by rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia today is an official federal holiday from verticality. My lower back has converted itself into a slab of medieval masonry, and my legs spent last night auditioning for a high-speed tectonic plate simulation. Restless legs? No, mother superior, that was a full seismic event.

And yet, walk past any window, and the universe acts like staying inside on a sunny day is a moral failure.

Frequently Asked Unsolicited Questions (That You Should Not Ask Me)

  • "Have you tried going outside for fresh air?" Fresh air is free, lovely, and possesses zero pharmacological properties capable of rewriting an immune system attacking its own cartilage.

  • "Is it just low vitamin D?" It is multi-system betrayal, Brenda. Vitamin D is a spectator sport right now.

  • "Did you try stretching?" Stretching a flare-up is a great way to turn a bad Tuesday into an interpretive dance of regret. Hard pass.

Radical Rest Is Not a Wellness Retreat

Society loves framing "rest" as a spa day. Face masks, chamomile tea, journaling about gratitude while wearing linen pants.

That is not what this is. This is horizontal containment. This is lying under a weighted blanket like a burrito of spite, waiting for the inflammatory cytokine storm to check its GPS and realise’s at the wrong address. I am not "recharging for tomorrow." I am currently buffering.

If your also staring at the daylight through a window today wondering why your body treats smooth muscle and bone like a hostile takeover target, pull the curtain half an inch lower. We don't owe the sunshine a performance review.

Do not perceive me. Do not text "checking in!" Do send memes of raccoons eating trash.

Stay horizontal, stay stubborn.
